The Author – David J Morgan

Born in Bristol, England, David now resides in Perth, Western Australia. Shortly after arriving in Australia in the early 1980s, he and his family moved to Karratha in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. He embraced the rugged and sometimes unpredictable environment and, like many transient workers of the time, found that once they left the camaraderie, spirituality, and freedom of the Pilbara, they were mysteriously drawn back.

From an early age, David was a musician and songwriter, performing with many bands in the UK, and he continued his musical pursuits in Australia. After leaving the Pilbara, he eventually established an international business consultancy, aptly named Spinifex International, in homage to the Pilbara region.

Throughout his business career, David has always sought opportunities to engage with music, no matter where he was in the world. His work as an international business consultant spanned Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Vietnam, where he played a key role in setting up and restructuring a diverse range of large companies.

A musician, singer, and songwriter since his teenage years in England, David has performed and recorded internationally with a wide variety of bands. In Australia, he was a founding member of the Mesa Band (www.mesaband.com.au) and has written and recorded numerous songs about the Pilbara region. Two of his songs—Fly In, Fly Out and Kanaji Binbaku—gained notable success, and others have been used in international tourism promotions.

David also wrote and recorded four songs in English to promote Vietnam tourism. Recorded in Sydney and Saigon, the CD Hello Vietnam was released in 2013 and sold over 10,000 copies. He was the first foreigner to have his songs approved for performance in Vietnam by the Hanoi-based Ministry of Arts and Culture.

Now semi-retired, David continues to facilitate occasional business connections between Western Australia and Vietnam and will soon return to performing regularly with the Mesa Band. He has also recently begun research for a follow-up to Mangadoo.
